God’s Wisdom Brings You Promotion

July 8, 2011

We have spent a bit of time in our journey and spoke about Joseph and I would like to go back to his life for a second.  Potiphar saw that the Lord was with Joseph and in the span of less than an hour promoted him from a prisoner to someone in charge of the whole land of Egypt after he witnessed the power that Joseph had to interpret his dreams.

There is one very important thing to know about Joseph; he knew that God was the source of his wisdom.  When Joseph was asked to interpret Potiphar’s dream he immediately responded, “It is not in me; God will give Pharoah an answer of peace.”  Joseph knew that his wisdom was a result of the Lord’s unmerited favor and would not take any credit for it.  Clearly Joseph understood grace, and could be trusted with increase, promotion and more good success.

With Joseph there was no striving, no self-effort, no compromises and no manipulation, just pure grace and grace alone made all the difference in Joseph’s life!  Just remember as with Joseph, when the Lord is with you, you are a successful person.  It may feel like you are in a prison now, stuck in a hopeless situation, cast away and forgotten like Joseph was, but the story is not over yet!  The Lord’s promotion is around the corner.  Whatever situation you are in right now, do not give up.

If you don’t know what to do then all you have to do is humble yourself and ask the Lord for wisdom.  In James it says that anyone who lacks wisdom should ask for it from God and He will give it to anyone who asks LIBERALLY and without reproach.  Simply say, “I can’t Lord, but You can.  I give up on my own efforts and depend entirely upon your grace and wisdom.”  When you receive His wisdom, riches and honor, as well as long life, will follow you.

I just want you to remind you the key to wisdom and the only key:  We are under the new covenant of God’s grace and that grace is Jesus.  Jesus is at the Father’s right hand and He is our wisdom.  And when we have Jesus, we can be blessed with the two hands of wisdom because of His finished work on the cross.  The more you seek Jesus the more wise you become, because if Jesus is our wisdom then wisdom is impossible without first seeking Him.

Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.  You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.”   —   Genesis 41:39-40

If you are caught in a situation where you don’t know what to do, it is time to humble yourself and ask the Lord for wisdom.
