Fear Robs You Of Your Inheritance In Christ

June 22, 2011

There are countless examples in the bible that shows that true success is determined and given by God and not our own works or laboring.  Sure, we can have success in this world by our own works but I am talking about supernatural success that only God can deliver that is perfect and lasting.  Let’s take Joshua and Caleb for example.

The children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years before they were eventually brought into the promised land.   For years before that, the children of Israel were on the brink of entering the promised land but because they had refused to believe God’s promises for them, that generation spent 40 years wandering in the wilderness, because they had refused to believe God’s promises to them.

Do you see the parallels with our life?  The blessings of God are there and waiting for us but yet we feel the need to refuse to believe and strive and strain for our blessings.  Let me say this again, the blessings are just waiting, we just have to receive it.  If the children of Israel just trusted God they would have been in the promised land of milk and honey 40 years earlier.  Was it really worth it to not fully believe?  Is it really worth it for us?

I think we know what robs our inheritance but what caused the children of Israel to wander for 40 years?  Moses appointment able men (leaders) to help him rule over the children of Israel.  The 12 spies were sent to spy on Canaan were no doubt the best of the best.   This means were all able men who feared God, men of truth, hating covetousness.  Only Joshua and Caleb (2 of them) entered the actual promised land.  Why?

They lacked courage!  The story is in Numbers 13 and 14.  Joshua and Caleb came back and said that the land was good and if the Lord wishes He will bring us into that land and give it to us.  They simply said in order for this to happen that we must not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the promised land for the Lord would protect them.  The other 10 spies gave a bad report, they said the men of that land were too big and too strong.  Like I said they lacked courage and were fueled by fear!

Do you see where I am going with this?  Joshua and Caleb entered the land of milk and honey because they believed in God’s promises and knew they were protected, the others did not because they were fueled by fear.  That is one side of it, the other side is they wandered for 40 years; if the leadership as a whole would have seen it Joshua and Caleb’s way they would have seen that the land was good and been confident in the provisions of God.  Fear paralyzed the other 10.

Today, no matter how dire your circumstances may appear, choose to focus on the goodness of God.  Choose to see how Christ has paid the price for you to enjoy God’s grace, favor, peace, protection and provision in every area of your life.  Fear will not paralyze you, instead you will see His faithfulness and walk in all His blessings.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.   —   Isaiah 41:10

We do not have to strive and strain to be blessed.  Good success for us today is enjoying the fruits and labor of Another — Jesus Christ.
