Grace and Truth Are One

June 11, 2011

Did you know that God sees grace and truth as the same?  Notice that truth is on the same side of God’s grace and both grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.  In the original Greek “grace and truth” are actually referred to as a singular unit, since they are followed by the singular verb translated as “came.”  In other words, in God’s eyes, grace and truth are synonymous — grace is truth and truth is grace.

Many times you will hear that you have to preach grace with truth or sometimes too much grace will not result in enough truth.  However if you are preaching Christ you cannot separate grace from truth, they are one in the same.  I want to tell you that Grace is not a doctrine but it is a person that that person is Jesus.  So if Grace is Jesus and Jesus is the way, the truth and the light then Jesus and grace and truth are one in the same.

When Jesus came He did not come to give us more laws, He came to give us His grace which is His truth.  Every aspect of morality is about man trying to reach God with his discipline and good works, but in Christianity, God came down to where we were to lift us up to where He is!

For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.   —   John 1:17

You cannot separate truth from grace and grace from truth as they both embodied in the person of Jesus Christ.
