Guard What Comes Through Your Eye- And Ear-Gates

June 9, 2011

Very simply we need to be very careful of what we watch and hear.  What we watch and what we hear can have a dramatic impact on what we think and how we view things.  I am not saying there is anything wrong with TV or radio but if that is our only source then that is where our mind is going to be.

Look at all of these news programs or pretty much any topic on TV today.  Is there any resolution that is being offered for anything?  What you see is a bunch of people debating on the topics they believe are true and you just get what they think is positive and negative about their point of view and the people opposed to their point of view.  What you do not get is a resolution to the situation that is being presented.  I am not sure if people realize this but that is the function of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.  Don’t think so?  What you get on most programs is more knowledge about what is good and what was evil or wrong but this knowledge has done nothing for you and me.  The problem is not getting resolved, we simply just have knowledge of each persons point of view about what is right and what is wrong.

However, with Jesus who is the tree of life we find His wisdom, understanding, peace, joy and grace that flows through our lives.  I am not saying we should not watch TV or listen to the radio I am just saying we need to watch our media diet.  It is far more beneficial for you to filled full of Jesus than worldly knowledge.

The more and more we spend with Jesus the more and more we become like Him and His grace and truth.  The more time we spend time with Him, the more we act like Him.  Do you want that?  I know I do.  If we are constantly feeding off the media there is no wonder why we feel weak and tired; there is no nourishment there.  Once again there is nothing wrong with TV and news, all I am saying is to be careful to not spend too much time in the media and understand where your real nourishment and truth comes from.

My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.  Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.   —   Proverbs 4:20-22

The more we hear and see Jesus, the healthier and stronger we become!  Our mortal bodies become infused with His resurrection life and power!
