Peace In The Midst Of A Storm

June 8, 2011

As we talked about yesterday, peace is not anything to do with your outside surroundings, it is an inner feeling irregardless of your surroundings.  That perfect peace as we discussed yesterday can only come from Jesus.  The story I refer to is the story of an art competition that’s judged on the topic of “peace”.  The winning entry was not the paintings of tranquility but rather a violent painting of a storm and in the distance a family of eagles were snug in their nest.  The chicks were fast asleep while the mother was protecting them from the blustering wind.  That my friends is the kind of peace that Jesus provides.  It gives you peace no matter what your surroundings or situation is.

Jesus gives us peace, security, covering and protection even in the midst of a storm.  Just take a look at the scripture below and what the psalmist has to say, he says it perfectly.  There is no safer place than under the protection of your Saviors wings.  Even when destruction rages around us we can have complete confidence that we can take refuge in the Lord.  I would even go as far to say that refuge can change our surroundings because being at peace causes us to act differently in crisis and that can change our surroundings.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty … He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge…   —   Psalm 91:1, 4

Only Jesus can touch what you are feeling inside and turn turmoil into His peace.
